Hello, GameMakers!

This week for MarketWire, we look at the top 5 game launches over the past year.

Even better, I team up with Matej Lancaric from two and a half gamers to provide you an expert perspective from the user acquisition perspective.

Hold onto your hats because you may be surprised. This episode is 🔥. You’ve been warned.

The good news, however, is that these 5 games are blowing up, definitively proving that success in mobile gaming is still alive and well!

Top 10 Charts

  • Congrats to Craft Shooter FPS Battles for hitting Top 10 Worldwide Downloads!

  • It looks like we got another big mover in Downloads by Traffic Rider.

  • Monopoly GO! hits both Top 10 in Downloads and Revenue for the US. How real is the game’s performance or is this just Savvy/Scopely forcing a hit? Find out below.

  • What’s up with all the new games hitting Top Downloads in China? Seems a little bit sus.

  • Lol, Starfield is Top 10 despite a September 6 release date. I hope it’s as good as everyone hopes it is. Screw it; I’m buying it too!

  • This Street Fighter love is unreal. Good for them.

Oh damn! These 5 games lit the mobile gaming world on fire this past year.

No, IDFA deprecation did not kill mobile gaming. The mobile gaming industry is alive and well, at least for these games. Well… maybe. We do raise some issues with performance on a couple of the games we mention, but there is a lot of nuance, so you definitely want to watch and hold on to your hats!

Based on our analysis and checking discrepancies between the major data services, we - meaning Matej and me - believe these 5 titles are the best mobile games in the past year. See below.

  • Note that Survivor!.io and Frozen City generate significant additional revenue from ads, which would substantially increase those games’ total revenue.

  • The two & a half gamers crew estimates for IAP vs. IAA (Ads):

    • Survivor.io: 50/50

    • Frozen City: 60/40
